Needle Drops and Run-out Grooves features recordings of the 'silent' run-in and run-out grooves taken from a total of 48 Long Playing vinyl discs. Each title is presented as follows: needle drop side A; run-out groove side A; needle drop side B; run-out groove side B. Recordings of run-out grooves feature 4 revolutions of the disc. There is a 6 second interval between each title, and 3 seconds between recordings within a title.

Needle Drops and Run-out Grooves is released on the Start Here audio cassette tape label, which aims to bring discerning listeners the finest in magnetic tape based media archaeological art. The files available for digital download are taken directly from cassette copies, and include the sound of the cassette's leader tape at the beginning and end of each side.
